I.C.I. Type Pilling Tester P.T.2
This tester was originally designed by Messrs I.C.I. ( Fibres Division ). This machine carries out tests which are now widely
accepted as a standard for determining the pilling tendancies of knitted and woven fabrics. The two boxes in which the test specimens
are "tumbled" can be either cork or synthetic rubber-lined.
A four box tester ( P.T.4) is also available.
The machine is fitted with a pre-determined counter which automatically stops the test at a required number of revolutions.
Accessories provided with the machine are eight rubber sample tubes, sample cutting template and mounting jig, 3 sets of
photographic standards of (A) Knitted or (B) Woven Materials. (Please state on order A or B).

Procedure:
Fabric samples, firmly mounted round moulded polyurethane tubes are rotated in the cork lined boxes for a preset number of revolutions.
The duration of the test is determined by the class of fibre and fabric. The extent of pilling is assessed against standard
photographs.
Special Safety catches are fitted to the hinged door of each box. Also a quick action, Emergency stop button is fitted.
